• TRIENNIAL XVI, September 19, 2026.

  • General information

    1. TRIENNIAL XVI is an informal participation event, not sponsored by any individual or organization. It is only for well-conditioned, experienced trail runners. Fitness of the runner to finish their section (physical condition and trail racing experience) is the responsibility of the team captain, organizers take no responsibility. Teams support themselves, the organizers provide no search and rescue, no first aid, no water.
    2. TRIENNIAL XVI, September 19, 2026, at the Sierra Shelter at Treman Park in Ithaca.  The "course" will consist of six sections, five participants will run twice with shortest total mileage at 5.4 miles, longest at 14.2.
    3. TRIENNIAL XVI will use Finger Lakes Trail Map sheet M16 entirely.

      1. Action Figure 1: Sierra Shelter to Riemen Woods (5.4mi)
      2. Action Figure 2: Riemen Woods to Connecticut Hill (4.4mi)
      3. Action Figure 3: Connecticut Hill to Riemen Woods (4.4mi)
      4. Action Figure 4: Riemen Woods to Sierra Shelter (5.4mi)
      5. Action Figure 5: Sierra Shelter to Riemen Woods (5.4mi)
      6. Action Figure 6: Riemen Woods to Connecticut Hill (4.4mi); collect Action Figure 2 and continue to Riemen Woods (4.4mi); collect Action Figures 1, 3, and 5 and continue to Sierra Shelter (5.4mi)
    4. Note: Everyone runs twice except action figure 4, while runners 2 and 6 will run twice but cover 3 sections . In theory, if you set up all your action figures ahead of time, this does not require any driving around during the relay because you are collecting your team on foot (drop runners 2, 4, and 6 at Riemen Woods,  action figure 3 at Connecticut Hill, and action figures 1 and 5 both start at Sierra Shelter).

    5. TRIENNIAL XVI will be a true relay. Each team will be self-supported; there are no aid stations or event officials. Teams will all arrive at the Sierra Shelter before their calculated team start time. The entire relay will depend upon the HONESTY and INTEGRITY of each team to complete the event course as defined.

    6. TRIENNIAL XVI teams will consist of at least 6 action figures.
    7. TRIENNIAL XVI team roster must be submitted to Karen Ingall by September 6, 2026. Team Roster must include:
      1. Team Name
      2. Name of each runner
      3. Age/Gender of each on event date
      4. Section(s) each is running
    8. TRIENNIAL XVI will consist of "head start times" calculated by the age/gender of each runner. The calculated head start for each runner will be totaled together and your team will receive a TOTAL HEAD START at which time action figures will begin from the Sierra Shelter at Treman Park. (If your team is both young and male, this will most likely require you to try to catch teams already running.) Logistically, all teams should finish close together.
    9. TRIENNIAL XVI winners will earn bragging rights when ALL team members have finished.
